Lonliness Poem by Daniel Edward

i think i know what its like to be lonely
and then i think of my cat
who waits around by herself all day long
waiting around for me to return so that
i can guard her from the dachsunds
that terrorize her during the daylight
and with me around she can come up from
her home in the basement
where she hides
waiting around by herself all day long
but when i get home
im too tired to give her more than
a few scratches on the head
and strokes down her back
and i realize
i have no idea what its like to be lonely
