Looking Everywhere Poem by Dipankar Dasgupta

Looking Everywhere

I look for him here
With purpose & vigor
I look for him there
With focus & rigor

I look for him in the forest
Where the trees stand tall
I look for him in the river
Rushing down with a thrall

I look for him in the temple
With its ornate walls
I look for him in the church
Where the steeple stands tall

I look for him in the mosque
As I wander thru the room
I look for him in the scriptures
And around tress full bloom

I look for him in every house
Where they pray to him
In and around the sculptures
While repeating the hymns

When I have just
Given up looking for him
I see him everywhere
In those same trees and the stream

I see him in those eyes
That offer forgiveness
I see them in those souls
That spread human goodness

I see him in the father
Who works day and night
And see him the teacher
Who cares for what is right

I see him in the mother
Who is begging in the quay
I see him in the child
Who has forgotten to play

When he is everywhere
Why are we so drowned
Why can’t we stop
And just look around
