Love At First Glance Poem by Francis Duggan

Love At First Glance

Rating: 4.8

I felt happy on that sunday
walking up the Chapel hill
And thinking of the coming monday
Made me feel more lonely still.

Then my eyes beheld a lady
Fairer than a rose in bloom
Thomas Regan's daughter Sadie
Humming to herself a tune.

When she saw me she stopped humming
And her face blushed ruddy red
Says I to her Summer's coming
'Tis a lovely day she said.

As she passed me she was glancing
From the corner of her eye
Inwardly my heart went dancing
And my sadness turned to joy.

The next friday night to the dance hall
I went hoping her I'd meet
Lovely Sadie outshone them all
She looked lovelier than sweet.

She looked much more than entrancing
In her beautiful pink dress
When I asked her come out dancing
She just smiled and answered yes.

The ballroom lights did glitter
On her sheeny raven hair
That first dance that I had with her
Was like waltzing through the air

Then she danced a little closer
And she put her face to mine
Whispering in my ear 'you know sir'
I have loved you for some time.

For the past six months we've lived together
As happy married man and wife
Since the day that I did wed her
I've enjoyed a better life.
