Love's Abuse Poem by Madison Riffle

Love's Abuse

See me here, sitting on my own
Join me quietly so I'm not alone
Wrap your arms around me
Make me feel at home
Look into my eyes to see what's lurking there
Give me a smile, just to show you care
But if you say you love me
It might be more than I can bear
So hold me closely to you
Try to help me make it through
And I'll do my best to make sure
I don't let myself get too close to you
This could be quite confusing
All this distance that I'm using
But I'm doing this for me
To save my heart from Love's abusing
I just can't bear the thought
Of love once gained being lost
So don't worry about me
I'm doing as I ought
I'm keeping myself away
Preparing myself for oncoming days
These tears speak for me
I don't want to face the pain
Join me quietly so I'm not alone
Wrap your arms around me
Make me feel at home
Look into my eyes to see what's lurking there
Give me a smile, just to show you care
But if you say you love me
It might be more than I can bear
So hold me closely to you
Try to help me make it through
And I'll do my best to make sure
I don't let myself get too close to you
This could be quite confusing
All this distance that I'm using
But I'm doing this for me
To save my heart from Love's abusing
I just can't bear the thought
Of love once gained being lost
So don't worry about me
I'm doing as I ought
I'm keeping myself away
Preparing myself for oncoming days
These tears speak for me
I don't want to face the pain
