Love's Tides Poem by Jade Leven

Love's Tides

so clearly I remember
that radiant sunset
I was facing east,
my thoughts wandering west
and there he was, just standing
staring at the sea
to look into his eyes
is to read his biography
an angry ocean split the shore
then slowly slid away
like love's tides, I thought,
the strength can never stay
I skipped a rock on the water
emotions cascading down
I let them drain out of me
never again to be found
clouds of silence covered me
and I didn't object
it was best not to ruin that moment
with words I would regret
his footsteps echoed softly
off the rocky cliffs
he wanted to leave forever
and he would get his wish
we were nothing of importance
as our hearts slipped into the swells
we were nothing of importance
as far as love's tides can tell.
