Lungs Poem by Robbie Squires

Lungs

'Well won't you lend your lungs to me?
Mine are collapsing'
Drunken rage and nights unknown
My liver keeps a-gasping
Hide the food and starve the kids
I think I am relapsing
Unemployed and ignorant
Forget the time that's passing

A week away in a foreign land
Mother's too sick to breathe
Women come and women go
But they always tend to leave
A night with you is a night in fog
I think I'd rather see
Let me go out on my own
The demons never sleep

The kids are gone, they won't be back
But now you wonder why
The way you live and the way you love
You won't be in the sky
You lived alone in your own mind
And you tried not to die
Penniless and without hope
And now you wonder why
