Madonna Of The Shadows Poem by Patrick Fealy

Madonna Of The Shadows

Rating: 5.0

I never knew how joy could bring
to life such wonders rare
until I saw him in the arms
of the maid with golden hair
Shadows raced around her
to cloak and to obscure
I almost saw the prettiness
that the gleeful child observed
His smile was bursting with delight
t'was a smile I'd never seen
What countenance could cast such light
like a moon upon the scene
It made me think how holy love
must magnify the lord
refracted light's perfection
shying out from heaven's hoard
The moon is like a looking glass
that gently shows the sun
reflected by it's footstool
when the light of day is gone
Shining till tomorrow
engulfing all my dreams
where beauty's ever fading light
brings love with all it's beams
