Mandela Father Of Our Nation Poem by Firoz Ahmed Ebrahim

Mandela Father Of Our Nation

lying on a distant windswept hilltop
far away from the brazen carpetbaggers
with their colgate smiles
slinking on the fringes of the kitchen cabinet
at last you rest...joining fallen heroes long forgotten
no more will you shed tears for the land you loved
no more will you feel the pain to see the wretched misery of you people
you did you best...and that no can deny

how could you have known that those to come
with their jimmy choo shoes, hugo boss suits and 4x4's
will abandon your vision
living in their apathetic anesthetized cocoon
the rumble of anger in the masses grows
the seeds of discontent have taken root
fed by the mercenary greed of the kleptocrats
we need liberation from the shackles of the autocrats
you did you best...and that no can deny

the battle was won but the war is far from over
peace be with you...father of our nation
you did your best...and that no can deny.
