Marlboro Halo Poem by Robert Rorabeck

Marlboro Halo

We’re going to go ahead with our
Dastardly deeds, believing there still
May be an opportunity;
We’re going to walk as steady as we
Please, trying not to go all wobbly kneed,
As we hook out of high school and
Straight into Juvy:
These are some things she said to me
As easy as you please, as she swung from
The naked limbs of the stalwart trees;
And I studied her arc, trying to figure out
How much lower she might play:
She was already at a five year low, but
She was still so beautiful to behold, and
Her pearlescent brow was ringed by
A Marlboro halo.
