Maybe A Poem Would Do Poem by Ray Hansell

Maybe A Poem Would Do

I was going to get you a card
That said, "Happy Birthday" to you
But then I thought to myself
Maybe a poem would do

Thank you for all the things
That you have given me
Most of all what we share
Others will never get to see

You always treat me kind
You're usually very nice
But just like everyone
There are times you're cold as ice

But I also know at times
I can be hard to bear
I know those are the times
That you don't want me there

But, putting all of that aside
I wanted you to know
That as the years go by
My softer side will show

So, don't think you're getting older
Just believe you're getting more mature
Just know you're getting better
That's a positive for sure

So, have a "Happy Birthday"
Remember what's in store
That as the years go by
You'll celebrate many more
