Meaning Of Life Poem by Marie J. Christopher

Meaning Of Life

One often wonders, what is the meaning of life?
A century-old pondering which needs to be defined.
What is the meaning of life?
A profound question or puzzle which daily stares at your face?
And whose life, your life or mine?

Your life can only have a meaning if you first make it meaningful;
You don’t learn from anyone else for you, only you, can define it,
By living it to the fullest,
By performing it with all your zeal and zest,
With passion; not the mediocre,
Average, indifferent attitudes, which serve no purpose,
Benevolent to no one, especially to your soul uniqueness.

So, what meaning you now like to assign to it?
Happiness derived from loving and helping or despair and depression due to soul's being selfish.
Rejoice, soul, by bringing joy to others in despair.
Hear their cries to sympathize and to forget your own nightmaring stares.
Put aside your futile laments and self-pity to lead someone who is weaker than you.
Then, only then, your life will no longer be colored blue,
Unless it can be described in blue as the most exquisite blue flower.
Be yourself a sower,
The seeds of happiness to souls around,
Then life will be returned to all precious aspects, which with tenderness abounds.

I now like to illustrate the true meaning of life.

I once had a friend who was homeless;
He lived by the river, sheltered himself in rags and bushes,
But he was cheerful, always ready to lend a helping hand,
To comfort, to console, to advise, to give a word of wisdom,
For he knew quite well how miserable a broken spirit could be.

One day he decided to refine his counseling skill and his life to be fully lived;
He came to our Bible study to obtain divine inspired truth and knowledge,
So that he could come back to the river bank to be a fisher of man,
But carnal vile nature got to him, the man untamed,
For acquiring the biblical knowledge but no understanding,
He became proud, self-righteous, and uncaring;
Now he just wants to preach what people do wrong instead of consoling.
I now have a task to give him back the meaning of his life
Relying on what I learn both blessings and errors in my own lifetime.
My homeless friend once had his meaning then to lose it,
Simply because he cared less for others and more for his trivial pride.

Make someone's life, day, or even one moment bright;
Then you gradually will discover the meaning of your life.

Elusive but it is right in front of your eyes.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
(I once was very miserable, wondered about my own meaning of life; I thought it was in money or career or school, so I went to graduate school, but I found my answer in God, because one day I had asked and because He was merciful, He felt sorry for me, who was searching in all sincerity.)
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

A very solid advice.. to keep life meaningful! Only by diverting our attention from our petty grievances to the miseries of others and lending a helping hand to mitigate them, we will be able to derive true satisfaction in life! I enjoyed these beautiful thoughts presented here, Madam! Thanks for reading my poem and commenting on it!
