Memory has a funny way
Of playing tricks on you,
Whatever you think you know,
Are you certain of it too?
I wrote a poem some months ago,
Of Memories from my first school,
My teacher’s name, I thought I knew,
But mistaken was I too.
This poem I was about to present
To the Lord Mayor of Nottingham,
To check the name I did go to do,
Before Inscribing the Poem too.
Luckily I did, for Lo and Behold,
The name was not what I thought.
Change it I did, luckily,
As the error would have made me distraught.
Memory is a funny thing,
We must always check continually,
Before writing poems of past events,
Lest havoc is caused for you and me.
