Memory Is Wasted On Those Trying To Forget Poem by Joshua Bantum

Memory Is Wasted On Those Trying To Forget

You said
learning everything was your reason
for being in San Francisco

I told you I was learning everything before I arrived
in san Francisco

I told you we should be friends,

and with me wrapped around you in the cold
like some dead poet skinned

You agreed

Maybe it was the 3 bottles of champagne
or how velencia st was lit
Beautifully

Maybe we were just comfortable
sitting on your window seal three stories up

And maybe you even meant it
then

But months after
when I saw you again
after you'd written me off

I asked you
why you were here
in san Francisco...

But you were drunk
and hadn't any answer
or even remembered yours from before.

Maybe you were always this way
Drunk
Undecided

I cant blame anyone if they are consistent
and I couldn't blame you anyways
for I'm always drunk,
but the saddening difference is
I just have a better memory of my lies
