Middle Of Tomorrow Poem by Robert Burgan

Middle Of Tomorrow

Rating: 3.5

Let's build a house in the middle of tomorrow
and spend eternity in each other's presence
Let's dig a hole in the middle of tomorrow
and tunnel back toward our beautiful intentions
Sweet, misty-eyed shadow you looked like me for a split second
With your smile on backwards and your head in the cumulous clouds
With real incentives and a gold plated reflection.

My reflection got thrown into a whirlwind
It looked like a stain on the sleeve of a storm
The delay of my blur must have caught up to you
You started to look like a clone in my war
The stems of trees that snap like fingers
Encourage rhythms from the sky that hums
The memories that shiver on the leaves flourish like the golden God above!

Let's build a life in the middle of forever
and spend eternity in a cozy cocoon
Let's spread our wings and fly toward space
We can create a planet, fresh and new
One without pollution and filth
One where everyone is free to express the way they feel about life as a whole
One where the beginning chapter is death

The rest of our story is handwritten
I'll help you edit each draft
One day we'll turn into shadows, my dear
and run through the world with forever on our backs
The tracks we leave are worlds of their own
Whoever decides to follow will understand what we mean to each other
and dig their own hole in the middle of tomorrow.

If eternity ends and there is no tomorrow
We'll watch the sun die and share one last dance
If the breeze slowly stops, the wind fades to a whisper
and the house that we built falls to ash
I'll remember the planet we built with our hands
I realize now...we all tend to live in the past.
