Mind Altering Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Mind Altering

It would be great.
And mind altering.
If those of true faith.
Prayed to keep kept that way.
With no one to question,
The greatness they feel.
And how it remains felt to stay.

Instead there is conflict.
More apparent than not.
There are arguments started.
To begin nonstop.
There are worshippers claiming,
Their closeness to God.
But the proof of it to show this,
Takes a microscope to discover it.
As if a crime is sought to have it solved.

Hypocrites no longer,
Have to deny that's who they are.
They are here, there and everywhere.
As if anointed to perform this job.

Wouldn't it be great.
If Christians were like Christ.
And the words of Jesus they obeyed.
Mind altering it would be.
To see, feel and know.
Their beliefs were not deluded.
And the truth to live it,
Would set them free from conflict.
Or their evil misdeeds.
To enforce upon others they deceive.
Done to realize and left to leave.
With only a wish to receive honesty,
And this commitment from all who say...
They exist to live to prove,
Being better than yesterday...
Is all they can today do.
