Mirror

Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one trying to look pretty,
The one that's trying to hide the guilt and pain,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that can't even look at herself any longer,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that heart seems to break over and over again
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that used to have that spark in her eyes,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that used to have so many opportunities,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that feels like she has to be the best,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that can never fail or let anyone down
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that can't say no to anyone,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that life never gave any hand me outs to,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who always gets kicked down just to crawl back up,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who puts on a front to try to seem strong and unbreakable
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one that no one truly could ever love,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one whose soul is haunted by someone’s memory,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who blinks and realizes that she is unmasked for the very first time,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who wishes it could stay like this,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who swipes her hand across the glass,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who doesn't recognize herself anymore,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who finally woke up and realized something new,
Who’s that girl in the mirror?
The one who speaks out loud,
It's me,
Now who are you?

poet Emily Jane Brontë

I am the only being whose doom
No tongue would ask no eye would mourn
I never caused a thought of gloom
A smile of joy since I was born

In secret pleasure - secret tears
