Misguided Poem by Danette Frenz

Misguided

You burst, you bristle, you blow up at once!
Why can’t we talk? I just want to talk.
When you scream, it seems, I just close up.
You’re closing off my voice, my choice to be open.
I shut down, close off, choking and gone.
NO ONE HAS WON!
Why can’t I be myself? I just want to be happy.
Make you so happy.
Soothe you, caress you, soft as a whisper.
I can’t do it on my own, this I’ve been shown.
It’s not one sided, being derided
Misguided, just hide it.
NO! I need you…I want you…to love me
Like I love you.
