Mrs. Nass Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Mrs. Nass

I once had a teacher whose name was Mrs. Nass
She tried to make English a joy to pass
She tried you keep your head out of the clouds
'Don’t write something that doesn’t make you proud.'

'Punctuate this sentence, ' she wrote on the board.
Time flies you can not they are too fast
At first, it did not make sense, we were floored.
Time flies, you can not, they are too fast.

Her wisdom is remembered to this day.
'Do not write, do, or say…
Anything you would not want to view
In the headline of the news.'

She was a teacher on a mission
Teaching with pleasure; that was her decision.
To the higher rank of principal she climbed,
Leaving her much-loved classroom behind.

She stood firmly at the top.
Her concern for students did not stop
She persuaded a tough headed bully
To calm down, then he understood fully.

As he left her office, he saw her smiling face
He was redeemed; he was not disgraced.
An hour later, she was taken with a heart attack.
Her students still love her, but she won’t be back.
