Must Defier Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Must Defier

I trust to do what is best.
To leave alone what others suggest.
I have aged to experience,
Making mistakes.
From taking suggestions,
Others believed would be good for me.

When I found myself on knees.
Off track and lost.
Following behind others.
That cost I had to pay.
Since my own way I abandoned.
Thinking my thoughts of it were false.

I now do what I should do.
From learning to know,
Myself better than before.
And when I pray each day,
For what is right for me to come my way.
I stay until I feel it.
And I feel it to obey.

No one can say to me today.
After experiencing my life,
And with age to know what is right...
For me.
No one can say what I must do.
If what I should do to know it,
Can be done.
Is a better way.
