My Best Friend Poem by Hailey Webber

My Best Friend

I remember the first day you came home,
With ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes,
Eyes so blue and a cute button nose,
Everybody had their eyes on you,
They would talk about how cute you were,
I must admit I was jealous,
I was used to having all eyes on me,
I felt forgotten and alone,
As we grew the jealousy stayed,
You'd draw pictures with your tiny hands,
And the pictures you drew would replace mine on the fridge,
I was a big girl I was expected to do as told,
You threw fits and tantrums,
But never got in trouble,
Because you were so young,
You were always interrupting,
The bedtime stories mommy told,
To make up your own stories,
From the pictures on the page,
You made me so mad,
I was filled with rage,
Then I learned to read all by myself,
Needing very little help at all,
But when it was your turn to try,
You would trip and stumble on your words,
Making you so very mad.
I'd get in trouble for laughing,
And storm away in a huff,
You'd follow me around,
When I went to play,
Always a bother,
Always in the way,
We'd fight, kick, and scream,
You read my journals,
And you stole my stuff,
I yell and scream,
And tell you how much I hate you,
But you always call my bluff,
You know I love you,
No matter what I say or do,
Because when someone makes you cry,
I will always be there to hold you,
And wipe away your tears,
You are always there for me,
When I have problems at school,
Or a fight with a friend,
You are the shoulder I cry on,
Or the person who always listens,
If I just need to talk,
I may say I hate you,
May act like I don't care,
But brother I love you,
You're the best friend a girl could have.
