My Captain Poem by david mcminn

My Captain

My captain I am tired, so weary in my soul.
My captain I am sorry. My fighting is done.
My friends are all gone. I am the only one.
I lay down my rifle. This day I am done.
I leave to you, the fighting to be done.
I have but one thing left.
To bury my brothers, deep in the ground.
So my captain forgive me. My duty is done.
I have to go home, to tell their love ones.
How they all died this day.
My captain I will tell them.
Why my friends and my brothers.
Are called heroes this day.
