My Country Needs Me Poem by Edwina Reizer

My Country Needs Me

I'm drifting off to sleep
and my mind is filled with you.
Will I see your face in my dream
and will my dream come true?

The last time that I saw you
we were waving our goodbyes.
My vision was so blurry
from all the tears in my eyes.

When you signed the papers
I begged you not to go.
You said, 'My country needs me.'
That stays in my mind you know?

I try to keep myself from thinking
about what you do each day
and every time I turn around
that's all I do is pray.

I pray that God will spare you
and send you home to me.
'Cause in the dream I have sometimes
your face I cannot see.

So as I drift off to sleep tonight
and my heart is filled with you.
Please let your face be in my dream.
God let my dream come true.
