My Earnest Prayer! Poem by Denis Martindale

My Earnest Prayer!

My earnest prayer is not for self, for me and me alone,
But Mum and Dad, for health and wealth, as love for them has grown.
I've seen the good times and the bad, and they've both seen them, too,
And yet, they've given all they had and did what they must do.

Each sacrifice, transformed by love, for clothes and food as well,
Providing what has proved enough provides their tales to tell.
And when I, too, find jobs at last, I'll try to do my best,
To match what they've done in the past so that each one gets blessed.

Let money come, let money go, to bless our family,
In only ways that God could know to grant us harmony.
A happy home, a Paradise, right here and years from now,
My earnest prayer is most sincere for what God can allow.

And so to God, I plead my case, give us our daily bread,
Stretch out Your hand to bless this place throughout the years ahead!
Extend Your favour, joy and peace! Your loving kindness, too!
Because Your wonders never cease, I humbly pray to You!
