My Friends Over There Poem by Francis Duggan

My Friends Over There

I've not seen them since I went to live elsewhere
But I'll always remember my friends over there
We grew up together drunk stout and played ball
And good memories of them i will always recall.

Some of them in the old Town they choose for to stay
And others they ventured to Lands far away
And some of them with the departed now lay
That's life the more hardened have been known to say.

Our old petty grudges we learn to forgive
And I'll always remember them for as long as i live
We had our disagreements but the bond of friendship is strong
And difference of opinions between us did not seem to last long.

We had good times together but such times do not last
But I'll always remember my friends of the past
And though it does seem we will not meet again
Good memories of them to the end I'll retain.
