My God And My Girl(Ii) Poem by Feyisayo Anjorin

My God And My Girl(Ii)

You kept me from painting the streets' pavement
With the red paint look-alike that you made
You kept me from panting and craving for the pleasures that would fade
You kept my most precious treasure from me
Till you could trust my strength to handle her with the necessary care.
You remain in a state too far for my circumstances to threaten
just like all you made and gave life.

I take in the cool or warm air you gave freely to keep me smiling
You saved my bones, never broken
You saved my heart,
Never fell prey to a heartbreaker

Always slept in my bed
Always fed,
Eating of the land's fatness
Filling me with hope
Gave me eyes to see her smile
Intoxicating smiles, like wine
She's filled with hope
Her name is hope

If faith loves hope
And faith is my hope
Then why should I groan

Certainly I'll never be able to pay
For the precious days
Days of goodness without slavish sacrifice,
Living a life so difficult for slavish sacrifice to birth.

Pay for a day?
So hard to say
Too foolish to aim

I should be paying for your benefits,
With every spot on the measuring line
No reason to flood the heavenly lines
With hunger for vanities
No reason to lose eternity's gain
For vanities' coming pain.
This love is working for me
I have to make it work for you.
