Feyisayo Anjorin Poems

The wise wait a little longer
Even if haste presses hard like hunger
The foolish stare and wonder
Why should one wait despite the hunger?
...

We sit and ponder on the dangers that lurk in this field of greens,
We carved the mountains and hills and searched for lovely stones;
We swim with sharks; swords, shields and spears for our dreams;
Living stones are better than lovely bones.
...

He was born to live, left in time and space;
Born to shine like a mirror in the sunlight,
He was born for diamonds and spades,
Born to glow like full moon through the nights,
...

We feast on our decadence with a smile,
well packaged dirt leads a pack of dirt,
wisdom marvels at a begger's gold mine,
this dirt is meant to be dirty till death.
...

Past sunsets as chains and anchors
Past sunsets as beauties of love’s connection
Hope as gold from a furnace
Hope as dragons of the east
...

When I go down to the soil,
And the world turns its lights from me,
And they wine and dine as I bear my cross,
Who wants to savour the taste of dust?
...

I tried to eat with my sore tooth
I tried to walk with my broken foot
I chose to ignore the writings of the book
I tried to live without my roots
...

It has a power greater than the forces of nature,
It's a shared desire,
It pierces the heart without hurting,
Its one word.
...

A breed that looks for gold on the surface,
Knowing nothing of gold's need for the furnace;
Minds longing for the shinning treasure,
But chained by the pull of pleasures.
...

If you have a hold on my breath,
The keys to life and death,
If there's an egg that holds my breath,
And you hold it and stand on an edge,
...

Writing on the walls of history
In the city of gold,
keeps you on your toes
fixes your eyes on your goals.
...

The precious is treasured.
Treasures in the heights,
Treasures in the depths;
Know the worthy treasures,
...

Will you turn to ashes in the fire of your desires?
Will you sit above the eye of the pyramid?
Will you stand boldly before your unseen designer?
Will your chosen path lead to liberty?
...

I wish to stop missing you,
I wish to stop wishing too;
I know it's wishful thinking,
I knew from the first inkling,
...

The mystery called love?
it holds the key to every heart,
makes you long for the night,
fills your bowel without a bite;
...

MY GOD AND MY GIRL

Before I close my eyes
And wish I was dust and bones
...

You kept me from painting the streets' pavement
With the red paint look-alike that you made
You kept me from panting and craving for the pleasures that would fade
You kept my most precious treasure from me
...

Gathered the strength for years,
The strength to stand tall.
Ruled my fears for years,
Saved my eyes from tears.
...

You remind me of so many impossibilities,
Like holding to the air with the hands,
Like blocking the sun’s light with human hands,
Like reading the future’s flow in the hands.
...

The wide road,
The broad path,
Plated with gold,
Attractive from birth.
...

The Weight Of Waiting

The wise wait a little longer
Even if haste presses hard like hunger
The foolish stare and wonder
Why should one wait despite the hunger?

Living begins through the vessel of creation
A newcomer descends from the seed bearer
Weak, helpless and innocent
Even kings start their lives this way
While they wait for their day

How weak are the eyes
That sees gold as mere stones
It is better to freeze like ice
Better to be dust and bones
That to have lights that cannot shine

It is wise to wait a little longer
It’s a way to see the strength of the weak
It’s a way to reach the gold in the depths
A way to get the best from the rest
A way to climb a hill to the peak

The king is born a baby
The tree is in the seed
The night will turn to day
The future is in today

Wisdom cries for a longer wait
Haste presses on the wise like a weight
The same weight that weakens the foolish
And sets their future on the wrong footing
