My Hawaiian Air Poem by Mary Elizabeth Sharma

My Hawaiian Air

Whenever I am away
From Hawaii
The first thing I miss
Is the air

The air here is
soft
You can feel it linger on your skin
You can feel it caress your face,
Like a lover

The air here is
warm
You can feel it like fiery fingers tracing
You can feel it snuggle close,
Like a child

But most of all,
The air here is Alive

She snuggles you
She Caresses you
She is everywhere
She is nowhere

And I miss her when I'm gone.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is how I feel whenever I leave Hawaii. I feel like when I return to the islands, the first person to greet me is the air. Maybe it is Pele saying hello to us mortals?
