My Heart Was Mended Today Poem by Susan Williams

My Heart Was Mended Today

Rating: 4.7

.
My tattered heart was mended today
and my life has no longer gone astray.
I received a beautiful love-note bouquet
and now my heart is having itself a soiree.
You promised we'll be together some lovely day
and embrace on a flower-strewn pathway.
.
So I gladly lay my head on silken pillow tonight
to think of you and I under a star-sprinkled night.
I bathe my lonely heart in the solitary candlelight
but I lie here in hope that I'll whisper goodnight
and embrace you, my love, in tomorrow's moonlight.
.
In the morning I shall rise and watch for you
coming to me amid the song of mourning dove coo.
Oh, don't you know I could never wish you adieu
that I could never say farewell to a love so true.
.
I'd give my kingdom for you if it would engage
one more lover's sigh on our journal's page
Or one more night with you it would presage.
.
In the meantime I lie here alight at midnight,
my heart and my eyes waiting ever bright.
.

Thank you, Bill. And thank you for pointing out the phrases you particularly liked- -these two were favorites of mine too! Am having trouble commenting and going to other writers' poems to read them. For example, it just took me 6 minutes to type in this comment so far and this is a good day... moment. If it allows me to post it. Will try to go read one of yours- -good luck to me....

The poem gives me a distnct feeling of a by-gone era... 'I received a beautiful love-note bouquet and now my heart is having itself a soiree. You promised we'll be together some lovely day and embrace on a flower-strewn pathway.' And of course the..'solitary candlelight' The earnest hope and fragile tenderness of a hopeful heart that emerges from these words is saddening. When one knows that one is truly loved the heart sings and there is no middle maybe road.10++++

Oh! You got it! I tried but thought I'd failed to get that fragile and maybe doomed hope across- -thank you for the deep read, Simone and the 10! ! !
