My History. Poem by Carl Roussell

My History.

Please put away your brush and your whitewash.
Please don't cover it or take it away.
Don't rewrite it with political floss;
the way for public opinion to sway
from the truth. Truth! Don't let it fade away.
We can try to learn from our history,
but only if we know the whole story.

We look to the past with a present lens.
Yet you feel something when you look at them.
How will you pass judgement on their actions?
Hold the truths or you will not learn from them;
going down the same road, the same mayhem.
We must try to learn from our history.
Please, don't take it from me; my history

History always repeats itself. It's like a cycle of life it could never be taken away but we can learn from it.....tweak it change it ever-so-slightly so that things will be better in our future. A very good poem.
