During my life Lord
you have always been there,
so powerful your words,
they beat back my despair.
You were the heart beat
to which my life has marched,
a much needed quenching drink
when sorrow left me parched.
You were the rock I chose
if I needed to rest for a while,
with every hurdle life put up,
you were an every present stile.
You were there beside me Lord,
I saw you every day
as I looked all around me,
at your miracles on display.
And on the sea of life
I sailed through each storm,
as from waves of trepidation
a calming lake you would form.
You were the light Lord
that kept the darkness at bay,
if I needed a safe harbour
all I had to do was pray.
My body has grown weary Lord,
Disease takes the wind from my sail,
but with you as my rudder,
on this last journey I won’t fail.
For I know where I’m going,
a lighthouse of love I see ahead.
I know it is a safe harbor
to which I’m being led.
And there I’ll lower my anchor
to leave the sea of life behind,
for in this safest of havens,
perfect peace I will find.
