My Love Letter Poem by rachel smailliw

My Love Letter

There Is my love letter
Burning at the bottom of that jar
But that fire needs oxygen
Like love needs the heart

So I cover the fire
What's left is the ember of a spark
A slowly fading glow
That was weakened from the start

The truth of what is inside
Like the slow fading glow
The fire in your heart went out
The love from a heart I'll never know

So there lies my love letter
The ash at the bottom of that jar
Proof that each flame needs oxygen
Like all love needs the whole heart
