My Partner, My Friend My Wife Poem by robin dyer

My Partner, My Friend My Wife

He stood there watching as she slipped away
There were so many things he wanted to say
But how do you say goodbye after 50 years?
They'd shared so much both happiness and tears
She was so much more than just his wife
She was his partner his friend the love of his life
He bowed his head and began to pray
Lord please give me the stregnth to make it through this day
Suddenly he felt such a sense of relief
In place of his fears God had given him peace
With this stregnth he sat carefully on the bed
And just like always kissed her gently on the head
He said close your eyes and rest now my love
I promise to meet you when the morning comes
He held her hand as the tears began to pour
Till he knew she was safe on heavens bright shore.
