My Rock Of Gibraltar Poem by Grindelia Bhattacharya

My Rock Of Gibraltar

Hello my Rock of Gibraltar!
There you stand
Proud, unperturbed, unremitting.

I watch silently
How the world admires your loftiness, your resilience
I watch from afar
How your color changes with the rising sun
How you long for the occasional visitors, the unknown birds
Who create quite a flutter in your sturdy heart.
I look at the sea surrounding you in all its vastness
Often tempestuous, unforgiving
But you stand still like a proud welcoming beacon

My dear Rock of Gibraltar
Do you have feelings?
I know not; for you lack expression!
I have!
And that is why I feel your presence
I feel your happiness
When a known flock of birds perches on you.
I perceive your sadness
When the dark waters surround you in pale gloom.

Don't be sad my Rock of Gibraltar!
You know not
You are a wonder!
The loving soul
In which, the Neanderthals have rested
Over which battles were fought, tunnels were drilled.
Corals still try to adorn you in infinite array of shapes and colors
People flock to have a glimpse of you.

Smile my Rock of Gibraltar!
You have seen it all and you will see more
That there is a promise in every new dawn!
