My Room Is My Sanctuary Poem by Denise Tuan

My Room Is My Sanctuary

As I sit here every day,
Alone,
All I can think about
Are the past events
And everything that is passing me by.

But today in particular
I sit here and wonder:
What would happen if one day the world
Did not exist?
What if all this was an illusion
That we percieve?
And what would the solar system be
Without it's Excellent mother?

Maybe one day we'll all be able to
See the world in a different light.
From above or below, beyond or up front.
The view will be an amazement.

This amazement might just drive us crazy
And make us wish to be there again.
And we will if we wish hard enough.
And if not, imagination is always there
To help us escape this cruel reality.

Just close your eyes
Think for a second and only a second
Of the world you'd rather be in
Feel the breeze of the air
The scent of the flowers
The buzzing of the bees
And open your eyes.

Indeed it will be the world
You wished to have a presence in again,
Because the reality is
You never left.

So now I'm just stuck here
In this room, alone once again.
Sitting and thinking, once again.
