My Souljah Poem by Tosin Abegunde

My Souljah

Kpoka! Kpoka! ! Kpoka! ! !
This memories fire in my head
Of thee who endlessly fought
My battle in this slum I live
Like a crocodile smile squad
Warring rebels on the creeks.

Of our seasons in the sun,
Seemingly forever entangled
But lo, as twilight our time is:
It withers like a hewned grass.

'Belele a o no bonono, zoni'
This song, in vexed spirit I sing
To feel thee again my souljah.

Roses too sing of thy love
Galaxy recounts thy folktale
My mouth miss thy weanings
My naked infant body beckons
For thy 'oja aran' for a cover
To scale through walks of life.

Accompanied by solitudes
Borne out of thy sudden dart
I turned a corporate begger
With vacuum till date unfilled
Yet, I came; I saw; I conquered
Even in my vulnerabilty.

Nothing this world owes me
And I know the crystal Jordan,
Its promises shall keep:
To see thee when all'd stand.

Only the mother earth jilts me:
Stealing from me, my souljah.
