My Strides Poem by Roy M Roi

My Strides

Rating: 4.5

My friend,
I took notice of this habit;
Why do u glare at me
So often with green eyes

Are you intimidated by my latest developments
How much I struggle to fortify myself
To be a brand

Is it these days I hold car-keys
That makes you feel like I am bitter grapes to your taste
Or that my nights,
I shake hands with magnates as we hold champaigne glasses
In high profile networking gatherings

I've heard you peddling lies
Of who this life factory
Has metamorphosed me to be

That I no longer buy my stuff from the duka, anymore
That these days i prefer price tags
My pride is severed when i bargain
That my tongue turns in borrowed accents these days
That my walking gait rivals that of a peacock, oh my!
That I gaze straight ahead, i don't turn to meet and greet

Well, I'll take no offense
If my retrogression is your hope
To buy you reprieve
Then, am sorry
You'll remain forever stuck in your sick bed of backwardness
