My Valentine Poem by Anne Yun

My Valentine

Rating: 5.0

From now on, i will spare my smiles for spring
Softly, and carefully i tread and sing
The roads spread infinitely in front of me
Breezes wave my hair under a solemn tree
Clouds weave my love in thousands of miles between
You, my dear, in foreign lands must have seen

The emotion that inspired this lovely Lyric Poem has an ineffable quality that rushed through me as I read it. INEFFABLE might be an unfamiliar word to you: it means something felt very deeply which can't be put into words. But YOU did find the words! That's the wonderful thing about your poem: you are speaking for all of us in articulating such fleeting, elusive feelings. You never say anything common-place, like I LOVE YOU. It's been said so often in poems it has lost its purity, its impact. Instead you tell this other person: Clouds above WEAVE MY LOVE and this same clouds are above you. Through this image you are sharing your finest thoughts with this other person. You are giving him a portion of the world's beauty to enjoy. And the opening three lines are to my mind just breathtaking: the levels of appreciation you voice, your confidence in what lies ahead, your commitment to Spring, that is, new beginnings - all of these things and more are suggested to me in those quietly sincere lines. This a pure Lyric Poem. (I hope you keep your poems in a safe place. They are treasures of your life and imagination; they unite the times of your life into a wholeness of being. That's awkwardly stated by me, but it's all true!)

In Chinese, Yun means clouds, that's my name, one of the closest friends of me for more than twenty years. I sent them to visit someone in somewhere of America, by their changing forms, by their loving hues, some voiceless voices of mine might reach to him. I LOVE YOU will always be the most beautiful sentence in the world, if i can't feel its true beauty, then i'd rather stop writing. Thank you, dear Daniel.
