Nana Hannah Banana Poem by Kelsey Gallant

Nana Hannah Banana

My grandmother's name is Hannah
But everyone calls her Nana
In her yard is a pool
But the pool has a rule:
No going in with bananas!

I was hungry one day, you see
And I only had one thing to eat
I thought, "She won't mind,
It's only one time"
So I brought my banana with me.

I sat on a float and reclined
Feet in the water, face to the sky
I unpeeled my snack
And promptly got smacked
And fell off the float with a cry!

A monkey had jumped from a tree
And now was looking at me
I stammered in shock
Had I known? I had not!
Nana's woods were full of monkeys!

The monkey grabbed my banana
And scampered off past the cabana
I watched him go
And then I froze
Because right above me stood Nana.

"Ahem, " she said with a frown
"Just what are you doing right now? "
"I'm sorry, " I said.
My cheeks were bright red.
"I didn't know there were monkeys in town."

"Yes, I have monkeys, " said Nana.
"And that's why you can't take bananas
Into the pool
It's my only rule
Do you understand, little Anna? "

"Yes, I understand, " I told Nana.
"No more going in pools with bananas."
Nana Hannah smiled
And said, "You're right, child.
Next time, wait till I have my camera! "
