Ndebele People Poem by Thabani Khumalo

Ndebele People

I alone have to ensure
that I save my people from their decadent beliefs -
I must save all my people from their decadent beliefs,
religion is an apparent reality that
all its leading practitioners hang tenuously
when it is a holiday on a sunday and they have nothing else to do.

That is the same reason that causes our people
to always waltz in with prayer issues when we try
to find a scientific way.
None of our people are keen on fluxing with science.
All of this emanated from a punitive code
that our schools were running on daily.

If we are keen on keeping our tribal power at its purest thereby,
our people are going have to be given stringent
laws on inter-tribal marriages.
There has since been no clarity in that department,
we call it a department because it is an area of activity
and it is usually void, which is also unusual considering its nature.
We will again become a state of strong Ndebele people.
