Neanderthal Poem by John Myles

Neanderthal

I've always been a Neanderthal.
It's the truth,
I'm not a man at all.
I am just a little less;
A minus man
Who would like to be,
Ought to be,
Evolved-
But I'm not.
You see
I have no sensitivity.

I'm an ape
Who walks upright
But not quite
Fit for modern day
Society.
A fossil;
Paleontology;
Some scientist should study me.

Maybe he (or preferably
She)
Would find the key
to unlock
My primitive
Psyche
And presumptively
Set me free
From
Hanging around
Banana trees
And getting stung
By honey bees.

Oh yeah, that's bears
WHO CARES! !
A Bear is better off.
You see,
A neanderthal
is all
I'll ever be.
