Night Or Day
Darkness... Of all kinds... in our mind and in reality...
Keeps those who wish to stay... and those who seek an outlet
for rage, inspiration, trouble, and burdens...
Allows entry for those who wish to embrace it...
waits for those who choose to avoid it...
Calm, Eternal, Patient and Promising
a release from that which you are trying to escape...
a reprieve from your obligations...
Darness, Twilight, Night, Sleep,
Accepting of all...
Yet most choose the day...
A place where troubles have to be faced...
Facades have to be upheld...
A mask put in place...
Social obligations, legal obligations, physical obligations, mental obligations...
need to be fulfilled...
Why? Because it shines brighter than the night...?
Appeals more to the waking mind than the silence of sleep...?
Promises companionship and warmth as opposed to loneliness and the cold...?
Yet when the dusk approaches... a long day has past... we embrace the night...
the promise of rest... peace... comfort in silence...
enveloped in a blanket of warm twilight...
We scorn the night during the day and the day during the night...
but both are accepting and patient... more alike than we want to admit...
