Treasure Island

hasmukh amathalal

(17/05/1947 / Vadali, Dist: - sabarkantha, Gujarat, India)

No early end

It brought no early end to anxiety
It was dry spell sans rainy day
The earth was torn apart
The green grass had already departed

All eyes were watching towards sky
Only one question was in mind” why”?
Why no sufficient rainfall this year?
We wanted dazzling and little rain drops to hear

Entire desert area was short of rain fall
As if to swallow animals, birds and all
It was still far to show the rain sign
The rainfall was not to begin

We all thought “it is our sin”
The animals were unnecessarily brought in
They must have water through out the year
“They may starve and become extinct” we feared

The priest, villagers and elderly persons prayed
For early rain and concern was conveyed
It was through hymns and sincere prayers
“There will be rain certainly” said sooth Sayers

It played miracle
The clouds heavily rushed in circle
Down poured from all the direction
It was heavenly bless with timely action

It saved not only whole of the area
But animals, birds with heart felt pleas
All dams were full to their capacity
It was really happy sign and relieved our worries

He is only one creator
But in true sense protector
Great healer and actor
Our true guide and mentor

* True story experienced by our region *

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
