*No Escape

In my dream I am escaping
Under the low cloud cover
That makes a ragged canopy
Above train tracks
And telephone wires.
Those lines converge on the horizon
Echoing down time's tunnel,
A labyrinth of recursions
From which there is no exit.

I am no summer friend, but wintry cold,
A silly sheep benighted from the fold,
A sluggard with a thorn-choked garden plot.
