No Longer A Dream Poem by Joshua Alan Hall

No Longer A Dream

I remember
Longing for love and desperately
Desiring
The comfort of another
I was a young fledgling
Like a fledgling
Hesitant to take feather to wind
Oh, but fly, I did
I found my Eternity
The mania of something new
So alluring; attractive
Then my eternity ended
I still soared
And damn - how hard it was
To maintain through the day
To smile when it hurt
I did it - I got through it
Another came along
And this time, soared higher than ever
A depth I hadn't known - so intimate
I had found Eternity again
Then my eternity - my light
It all came to a screeching halt
My eternity ended
I ask then:
How many eternities are we allowed?
Are eternities really eternal, then?
Merely memories remain
I once longed for that heat
Is it that important?
Once you've had it and lost it
It's no longer a dream
