Nomination Elation Poem by Jim Boone

Nomination Elation

Jake read my poem on line
and wanted to read more

has been reading ever since
on poemhunter.com and
nominated me to be the 2012
Poet Laureate of the USA
for reasons unimaginable
to the 'me' who created them.

I was a ‘homosexual’ child
who began writing down
my thoughts after puberty
exposed a bent in my druthers
that zoned in on the brothers
whose sisters were my buddies
and my parents shook their
collective dismay and turned
on anything to drown out
my embarrassing musings
each day in a 'sissified' way.

I wrote to try to figure it
all out; to resolve the anger
and to record all the lust
that always came my way.

I write to validate my soul
connection to spirit and to
deal with the mental stillness
that brings on the darkness
that has always frightened me
and driven me away from
situations that felt
right and good.

The 'nomination' was accepted
by the poetry center at the
Library of Congress today. Yea! !
