Nostalgia Poem by Majdoleen (Maggie) Sukayri

Nostalgia

A voice lingers in the still of the night.
Nostalgia calls out my name.
I look out my window,
Hoping the cold winds of the winter passed
And see the buds of spring welcoming it's summer.
Will the sun shine it's brightest, again?
Or will the clouds of winter hide it?

I see her silhouette far across the distance.
The shadow of a woman, once strong
She brings anecdotes of yesterday.
Where the sun once shone,
And the skies once blue.
She came from a time when birds chirped.
She talks of times when grass was green
And flowers bloomed...

Now all she has is memories.
She walks from town to town,
Scared, and alone in the shady nights…
Telling strangers of her tale.
None seem to believe her,
Thinking it's just a fable, told by a wanderer of the dark.

Only I have witnessed her tale,
But even I wouldn't be received well.
So I decide to keep the story afloat only in my mind
I hide it as a secret, a past no one should know.
Believing it should only belong to her, and me
For her story is unwelcome in this town.

All that she owns is a memory
And she goes on to tell it, to keep it strong.
Fearing she herself will forget one day.
