Not A Warrior Poem by Jemme Simbulan

Not A Warrior

I am not a warrior
I never knew how to swing swords
I neither have my breastplate nor my helmet of gold
I am one of the spectators
I fancy such game
But, I always want a happy ending
I never really loved a sour shame
Yet, you forced me to drag my feet following you
Inside the arena, you want me to battle you
I told you, “Do you think I can do this? ”
You shouted, “Don’t be a coward! ”
So, I pulled my luck and shot an arrow to you
Quickly, you dodged it ravenously
And then at a chance, attacked me mightily
How can I dodge it?
I have let you wound me
My eyesight has faded
Until I bleed to death…
I saw you smiling for you have won
So, tell me now, “Do you think I can do it?
- -To still live even if you took away my life? ”
Long gone, long gone, time will just pass
But I do not think I am here to last.
