Not Everyone As We Know Can Be The Best Poem by Francis Duggan

Not Everyone As We Know Can Be The Best

Not everyone as we know can be the best
And some are found to be wanting when put to the test
But do not allow your lack of success sleep of you deny
The best you can do is give it your best try
Not everyone can hope to win Olympic Gold
But everyone as we know eventually grow old
Immortality for Humankind based on a lie
For sooner or later we all have to die
The Reaper does not respect money or fame
The winner and loser to him are the same
To his sharp scythe the tallest of poppies does fall
The journey through life has to end for us all
Not everyone as we know does know of renown
And 'tis even quite hard to be best in your town
But anyway what is success it is hard to define
Your ideas of it may be quite different to mine.
