Not Your Job Poem by Randy McClave

Not Your Job

It was not ever your job
To quieten every sob,
Or to wipe away every tear
That you ever did hear.
And as speak not trying to be snooty,
It was not ever meant to be your duty.

It was not ever meant to be your task
No matter who might want or ask,
To keep your family together
For you alone to hold that tether.
And what is the saddest truth,
You were not ever meant to be its sleuth.

It was never your worry or strife
To fix all the broken people in your life,
Though you did truly and lovingly care
It wasn't meant for you alone to repair.
And to be honest and also true,
It wasn't never up to only you.

It was not ever your stint
If you would only take the hint,
To stay with the person that you were fighting for
And for you they were not there emotionally anymore.
It wasn't meant for you just to live,
And unto others to give, and give and give.

It was not ever your place
To put happiness on someone else's face,
While you held all that weight on your shoulders
While they carried pebbles you carried boulders.
You weren't meant to just fight and stay,
That was never part of your resume.

Your job now is to just let go
It is your time to be selfish and to glow,
Your job is to find what makes you happy and to love yourself
To heal from all that trauma and pain for your spiritual health.
Your job is for yourself, so keep on fighting,
Then find that person who is soulful and exciting.
