Numbered Lives Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Numbered Lives

Counting days, counting weeks,
Counting months, counting years,
We spend our lives, my dear
Till we fail to count anymore

Till we care to count no more!

In meters and in litres
Barometers, thermometers
We measure parameters, my dear
Until the scales can measure no more

Some things are too big to measure after all!

Life is tied up in numbers
Whether we like it now or never
There is nothing called forever
You will know that sooner or later

We are all just numbers, my dear!
